Product Description

Introduced in 1964 and based on the Musicmaster (which was introduced in 1959), the Mustang has attained cult status largely due to the number of highly regarded musicians who preferred them:

Adrian Belew (King Crimson), Eric Burdon (The Animals), David Byrne (Talking Heads), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers), John McLaughlin, Todd Rungren, Johnny Winter ...

Early Mustangs (like ours) were available in (Dakota) Red, (Olympic) White and (Daphne) Blue with Pearl while pickguards for the Red and Blue and Tortoise shell for the White one. In later years most Fender custom colours were available, including the cool 'Competition Stripes' during the '70s.

The 1965 spec's are:

  • Poplar or Mahogany slab body
  • Red, White and Blue paint
  • Maple neck / Rosewood slab board
  • Two grey base plate pickups
  • Large headstock with transition logo
  • F-Key tuners with plastic buttons
  • Clay-like fingerboard dots
  • Slider switches for pickups: On - Off - Phase
  • Fender Dynamic Tremolo
  • 24" scale with 22 frets

This one came from Florida and has been refinished, probably over the original Dakota Red. Everything else is original. Comes with its original 1960's grey case.
