That inspired us to take a perfectly good 'A' neck 1964 Mustang and trick it up a little into our own John McLauglin tribute guitar. Actually it wasn't a perfectly good 1964 Mustang - it was a (very nice) refin to White with Duncan Rails pickups, new switches and pickguard. Everything else seems orig though so here's what we did:
JM was a scallop board afficionado, which helped create a very unique tone. Rather than hack into a nice Brazilian Rosewood board, we've opted for less invasive (and reversible) very tall Stainless Steel frets. The action is to die for and we've added some electronic mods to take it into the 21st century: Custom-wound, noiseless Strat pickups by Chris Kinman with series and parallel switching. The result is a very, very fast and articulate guitar. Perfect to take into the studio or use for live performances. Quiet (no hum) but loud beyond belief. Smooth Jazz tones to razor-sharp bite, in series, out of phase, out of control.
Of course if you don't take to all this, we're including the original pickguard with all switches and pickups intact so you can just take her back to original if you wish.
