Product Description
Hey hey we're the Monkees ... Not often you see a Red Gretsch. Incredibly rare to see a one-owner 6123 Monkees model. Original case, warranty, hang-tags, strap ... you get the picture. Jeepers.
This is a fully hollow, highly resonant instrument. Very responsive and this is augmented by a pair of amazing Supertron pickups. The result is a wild sounding guitar. Really if you take all the romanticism away, there's nothing terribly refined about Gretsch guitars. There's a rawness you never get with Gibsons and this is mostly noticable at low volumes. It's an honest tone, one that makes you listen to the sound and not the thing that's making it. That's why there are Gretsch lovers and that's ultimately what they love.
This 6123 was a commercial flop for Gretsch. A brilliantly designed and built guitar that fell victim to a terribly ill-conceived marketing plan. In later years it became the Streamliner which was a poor cousin and never emulated the 6123 in any respect. The short life of the Monkees guitar means that there were hardly any built, making this rare rare rare - and that's always good.
